In our new series of info-posts we look in depth at certain subjects to bring you useful information.
Today’s post looks into antivirus.
What is antivirus?
Most of us will be familiar with the term ‘antivirus’ because it has now become an essential utility for our home computers and now more recently our smartphones too. It is also big business for many antivirus companies as the increasing amount of Malware on the Internet means that we really need to purchase antivirus software or applications.
There are a number of free antivirus solutions, the most famous of which is AVG. Although these provide ‘adequate’ cover against the mainstream viruses and malware, they fall short of total security.
Visrus infections and Malware comes in many shapes and forms these days, most try to obtain personal information from our computers for cyber crime. Picking up a virus or malware can be from visiting an infected website, opening an infected file or even via an unsecured network.
Antivirus firms really have their work cut out as they are literally learning about new threats everyday and will offer updates on a regular basis.
Online Security
With nearly 50% of Internet connections now made via a mobile device (smartphone) these are being targeted by distributors of Malware too. As we move forward we will see services like anti-theft and antivirus combine to provide ‘security’ solutions.
Snuko for example has a number of anti-theft solutions available across a number of different operating systems and are already planning total security solutions to keep you safe.
