Samsung Outsells Apple

Samsung bruises Apple’s dominance of smartphone sales

Between July and September 2011 Samsung outsold Apple to become the best seller of smartphones in the world, something which had not happened since the launch of iPhone.

Detailed research by leading industry analysts showed that 27.8 million Samsung smartphones were sold during the July to September quarter compared to 17.1 million Apple phones and 16.8 million Nokia phones.

The reason for the slump was actually fairly straightforward. A spokesman confirmed that people were simple waiting for the new iPhone to be launched which they knew would be around October 2011. Having launched and with unprecedented numbers of pre-orders it looks as if Samsung’s time on top of the most smartphones sold list will be limited to just the one quarter.

However the data does confirm that Android devices can make a dent in the Apple smartphone market share. Don’t forget that many of these purchasers will keep their new Samsung phone for at least 12 months but more likely 10 months.

If you have a Samsung or any other smartphone make sure you protect it with anti-theft software to ensure the security of your personal information and to stand the best chance of recovering your device if it is ever lost or stolen.
