The latest quarterly figures from comScore (MobiLens) for the quarter ending September 2011 again show the dominance of Android in the USA mobile phone market. The study was carried out using 30,000 mobile subscribers.

The results of the current survey indicated that the handset manufacturer of choice for the USA market is the Samsung with a 25.3% market share. When it came to the platform of choice Android is still growing now with a 44.8% share of the market.

The figures below show the last two quarters top handset manufacturers and their growth / decline over the two periods.

LG June 2011 21.3% – September 2011 20.6 % – Down 0.7%
Motorola June 2011 14.5% – September 2011 13.8% – Down 0.7%
Apple June 2011 8.9% – September 2011 10.2 % – Up 1.3%
RIM June 2011 7.9% – September 2011 7.1 % – Down 0.8%

Smartphone User Data

The report details that some 87.4 million people in the USA had a smartphone during the quarter ending September 2011, which was am12% increase from the previous quarter ending June 2011.
The following figures indicate the market share for each platform over the last two quarters.

Android June 2011 40.2% – September 2011 44.8 % – Up 4.6%
iOS June 2011 26.6% – September 2011 27.4 % – Up 0.8%
RIM June 2011 23.5% – September 2011 18.9 % – Down 4.6%
Windows June 2011 5.8% – September 2011 5.6 % – Down 0.2%
Symbian June 2011 2% – September 2011 1.8 % – Down 0.2%
