comScore has conducted another survey into the USA mobile market which is seen as a good indicator for the rest of the world. The following information is based upon a survey of some 30,000 USA mobile subscribers for the period ending May 2011.

The results of the USA mobile market indicated that the top handset manufacturer is Samsung with a market share of 24.8% and that the top smartphone platform was Android coming in at a market share of 38.1%

Drilling down into the background statistics we can see some very interesting data about mobile users in the USA. For the three month period ending at the End of May 2011 there were a massive 234 million people aged over 13 who used a mobile device.

When we start to look at the actual smartphone platforms we can see that 76.8 million people throughout the USA owned a smartphone for that three month period which is a significant increase of 11% from the previous three month period.

Looking at what these users do on their smartphones we see that 69.5% of users used text messaging, 39.8% used their browsers and 38.6% downloaded applications (an increase of 2% against previous three months).

It is largely expected that these figures will continue to increase at a rapid rate making the smartphone and its application market one of the best industry sectors to currently be in.
