Uptake of mobile phones in Africa booms
If you asked someone on the street where they thought the fastest growing mobile market is you wouldn’t be surprised if they said USA, China or maybe even India. However all of those would be wrong, the fastest growing market for mobile phones is actually Africa.
The latest quarterly figures from comScore (MobiLens) for the quarter ending September 2011 again show the dominance of Android in the USA mobile phone market. The study was carried out using 30,000 mobile subscribers.

Between July and September 2011 Samsung outsold Apple to become the best seller of smartphones in the world, something which had not happened since the launch of iPhone.
So what is in store for smartphone users in 2012?
Well 2011 has seen Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich, a new iPhone launched (even if it was not the iPhone 5 as hoped), BlackBerry (RIM) fail massively with an outage and Nokia launching their very first Windows smartphone.
iPhones new voice recognition software called Siri has left many Scottish users in a complete tiz as it fails to understand their accents and delivers some very strange results.
Siri is available on the iPhone 4s which was launched earlier this month and while USA, English and even Australian users are enjoying the new voice recognition experience, many Scottish users have been left frustrated.
This coming Wednesday 26 October sees the event Nokia World in London where they are expected to launch their very first smartphone running on an alternative operating system. The phone is said to run on the Windows Phone platform allowing it to bring another set of phones to the market.
