Yes. Snuko uses multiple layers of security to ensure that your data remains private and secure, making sure that no one but yourself has access to your data.
Our proprietary software automatically checks in on a regular basis once installed on your device and the IP address is recorded. Tracking and recovery services are NEVER turned on until YOU report your item as lost or stolen. We do NOT keep track of your device's location or usage while it is in your possession - the tracking process is triggered only by YOU when reporting the device as lost or stolen. ONLY you will have access to your phone/computer's data and usage.
No. Our software is designed to be as efficient as possible, the memory footprint and resources used are extremely minimal.
The Snuko software contacts our server on a regular basis, sometimes multiple times a day. During this contact, less than a kilobyte of data is transferred. This process is extremely low-bandwith and about the equivalent of visiting a web page with only 2 or 3 lines of text and no images.
Yes. Snuko Anti-Theft & Data Recovery provides with a minimum of 1GB of online storage to back up your most important files and data, which you can configure either during or after installation. Snuko allows you to configure either backup sets, which consist of groupings of similar types of files (e.g. music files, photo and image files, or spreadsheets sets) or you can individually select files and folders to be included in your backup schedule
To do so, right-click on the Snuko icon in your system tray, go to “Settings” and then “More Settings...” which will open up the Settings console. Click on either the Backup Sets or File System tabs to choose which files on your computer you would like to include in your scheduled Snuko data backup. You can easily change this schedule, along with other settings, within the Options tab. Once you are finished click on OK to save your changes. The next time your scheduled back begins you will see the Snuko icon change to a green colour with a spinning logo. If you would like to view the status of your backup while it is taking place, simply double click on the Snuko icon. Once your data backup has completed, the icon will return to it's usual blue colour.
Yes. Snuko works in any country as long as an internet connection is available.
Snuko is suitable for computers running 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Mac OS X 10.6+.
No. Our software will remain active until you delete it from your online account. However, if you downloaded the free version of our software then you will only retain full functionality for 1 month. After this period, the Geolocation tracking and backup features will no longer be available. You will need to upgrade to our Premium version.
At the end of the installation process a pop-up message will appear at the bottom right corner of your screen to confirm that Snuko installed successfully. It could take a few minutes before you see an icon appear in your system tray. Once the icon is visible though, this indicates that Snuko is running without any issues. You will also see Snuko begin the process of backing up some important data.
No. When you report your device as lost/stolen, the Snuko system tray icon will be hidden. The Snuko application is also hidden from the Add/Remove Programs list under the Control Panel at all times, thus preventing any unauthorised attempts to uninstall the software. Additionally, the service running in the background on your device which performs the lock down process uses a non-descript name and so is unidentifiable to a thief.
Log into your online account, select the item from the dashboard and click on the Uninstall Item button. The status of this device will change from “OK (Installed)” to “Uninstall Pending”. The next time that your computer checks for a status change, the deletion flag will be recognized and Snuko will uninstall itself automatically. Please note that the uninstallation process is NOT complete until you have rebooted your computer. You will not be able to re-use the same license key for another installation until this has been done.
Once uninstalled, the status of the device will change to “Item not installed” and the Uninstall Item button will change to “Delete Item”. By clicking on this you will be able to permanently remove your license – please do not delete an item unless you are sure you no longer need it.
Log into your online account immediately, select your item from the dashboard and click on the Report as Lost button. The next time your device is connected to the internet, it will receive a status update from our servers and go into lock down mode.
Should an unauthorised person manage to gain access to your device, there may be a brief period where files are visible while the process of data encryption takes place. The time it takes for this process to complete will depend on a number of factors such as the amount of data to encrypt, the types of files which you have stored on your device, as well as the speed of your computer. As a rough estimate Snuko can encrypt around 30MB per second (that's just less than 2GB per minute).
Using sophisticated GeoLocation technology, Snuko will provide a Google Map image of where your device is located. It will also generate detailed IP log data providing information about which networks your device is connected to – this is extremely useful to law enforcement agencies in pinpointing exactly where it is being used, and by whom. Snuko will then secretly take pictures of the unauthorised user (if a webcam is available), capture desktop screenshots of their actions, encrypt your most important files and data and finally lock down the device from further unauthorised access.
To view this information, log into your account online and click on the Item Events and Data tab on your dashboard.
Yes. Log into your account online and click on the Item Events and Data tab on the dashboard. Near the top right of this tab, under the Report column, you will see a “Generate PDF” link. By clicking on this a PDF report will be generated which summaries all of the information that Snuko captures and records about your lost/stolen device.
Simply print this out and provide to police which will greatly assist them in recovering your device.
When the finder turns on your device, they will be presented with a screen stating that the owner has reported it as lost and that the device has been locked down. On this screen they can then enter their contact details and a short message to submit to the owner, provided an internet connection is available. When the Submit button is clicked, Snuko will automatically capture this information which will then be displayed on Item Events & Data tab of your dashboard (under the Finder Info section).
